This book differs from most in the category. You won't find much praise for JFK as the author is brutally honest when he writes about the shortcomings of the JFK presidency. He also ventures into areas that most others won't delve into.What I like about the book is that the author does just that, seemingly leaving little disturbed.One controversial territory that really wasn't surprising was the sexual forays of JFK. That has been known for years, the author had a bit more detail. I can see where some folks in Washington got very nervous about some of these dalliances! The author was sceptical of some hypothetical affairs and wrote them off as unlikely. While others were politically dangerous and very risky.JFK's medical health and treatments were somewhat of an eye-opener as well as the Mary Meyer relationship and drug use. That is something that has received more press. (Notice the books recently available on that subject.)"Fragging in Dallas" was an interesting idea and Mr. Plosia, I think, holds a very sensible view of Oswald.Other subjects in this book that I found intriguing were the reputed bounties on JFK and the identities of the shooting teams. I think that the author hit on something with the idea of multiple hit- teams from various anti-JFK groups.There was no shortage of groups mad at the president for double-crosses or ideology. The notion that there were hit teams that stood down or weren't necessary makes sense. The Mafia and anti-Castro Cubans are well-known as probable shooters but this book gives more detail on the likely shooters and some of the other groups that may have been involved.E. Howard Hunt's deathbed confession is somewhat dubious considering his history as a pathological liar. But even so, there is a lot to ponder in this book.Mr. Plosia explains the history and activities of American intelligence agencies. He includes and goes beyond the C.I.A. This is helpful in understanding what Lee Harvey Oswald may have been doing.The book is repetitious on some subjects and that takes away some.For readers curious about just how volatile this time was behind the scenes, this book offers a lot of angles and ideas. Worth reading.
